74: Restoring Marriage While Overcoming Porn-Fueled Shame with Clinton & Charity Muñoz

Feeling shame about our natural sexual urges is more harmful than we think. Clinton and Charity Munoz from Restored 2 More decided to share their story in hopes of helping others.

A few years into their marriage Clinton’s secretive and compulsive use of pornography was distressing to Charity and took their marriage to dark depths. With the help of God and good resources, they’ve been able to restore their marriage to more than it was before and find new meaning.

I hope you enjoy this podcast episode as much as I did!

What We Cover in This Episode

I open this episode with a simple analogy: imagine being told that liking chocolate makes you a bad person. You’d either shut down your desire for pleasure entirely or sneak it in the dark and feel awful afterward. That’s what shame does to our sexuality—and it’s often the shame, more than the urges, that does the real damage.

Clinton and Charity Munoz of Restored 2 More share their story with incredible honesty. Clinton’s pornography use began in childhood as a way to cope with painful core beliefs—“I’m not good enough, I’m unlovable”—and stayed hidden for years, even as he was active in church. When Charity discovered it continued into their marriage, it took them to dark depths.

But this is a restoration story. With God, honesty, and good resources, they rebuilt their intimacy into something more connected than before—moving from sex as a chore or performance to genuinely loving and serving each other. Their hope is contagious for anyone who feels alone in this.

Key takeaways

  • Shame about our sexuality often causes more harm than the urges themselves.
  • Pornography use is frequently a coping mechanism for unhealed core wounds, not just a moral failure.
  • Secrecy and isolation make it worse; honesty and good support open the door to healing.
  • Restoration is real—many couples rebuild intimacy that’s deeper than before.
  • Healthy communication transforms sex from a chore or performance into mutual love and service.
