Men’s Coaching Success Story Part 1
In today’s podcast, you’ll have the privilege of meeting one of my favorite couples on the planet, Mark and his wife Mindy! Mark was in my most recent Men’s coaching cohort. Six months ago Mark and Mindy were on the brink of divorce after 25 years of marriage. However, they have worked really hard and with God’s help, and a little bit of effective coaching, they had grown a lot in a short time.
I’m excited for you to hear their story!
What We Cover in This Episode
Mark and Mindy had been married 25 years and, in their own words, were living more like roommates than lovers. They were kind on the surface—date nights, time together—but there was an invisible wall they could never break through, and they’d quietly drifted to the brink of divorce.
The breakthrough came when Mark stopped praying for God to fix Mindy and started asking what he needed to change. He realized how controlling and resentful he’d become—especially around desire differences, where he’d assumed something was wrong with him. Owning his part, rather than pointing fingers, changed everything.
We talk about the finger-pointing trap (we’d all rather believe the problem is our spouse), the courage it takes to go beneath surface-level conversation, and how a little honest, faith-rooted work turned two roommates back into intimate lovers—flirty and twitterpated again after 25 years.
Key takeaways
- Drifting into a roommate marriage is common—and reversible.
- Lasting change starts when you ask what you need to change, not how to fix your spouse.
- Finger-pointing protects our ego but keeps us stuck; humility opens the door.
- Surface-level harmony isn’t intimacy; real connection means going deeper, even when it’s hard.
- Desire differences often breed resentment—until you stop taking them as a verdict on yourself.
If you see yourselves in Mark and Mindy, there’s so much hope. Learn how to move from roommates back to lovers, rebuild emotional intimacy and connection, and navigate mismatched sex drives without resentment.
Mark’s growth started in coaching, and yours can too. Our Next Level program is built to help couples create exactly this kind of change.
