Last month I took my family of 8 to Costa Rica for a week – our first international trip as a family. On one of the days, we went to a nature sanctuary in the heart of the rainforest. The greenery, humidity, and aliveness of the rainforest was a stark contrast to our Southern Utah desert home.
At the entrance, we learned that they have an entrance fee of $10 per person to go in and to enjoy the trails on our own. However, for $27 per person, one of their trained guides will take us through the sanctuary and give our family a two hour private tour. I hemmed and hawed about the decision for a minute, but figured we probably won’t be coming back to Costa Rica for a while, and hey, this is vacation, so we splurged on the $27 per person option. And I am so glad we did!
Guides are experienced and know what to look for
Our guide happened to be the founder of the sanctuary himself! He was extremely knowledgeable. We learned all about amazing leaf cutter ants, rubber trees, and parasitic fig trees. We saw four sloths too, one was a mom with a baby on her belly! We probably wouldn’t have noticed them because they camouflage so well, but our guide knew what to look for. We saw many colorful poison dart frogs, the world’s most dangerous (and huge) ant — the bullet ant, and a viper snake. We saw exotic tropical birds, an owl and a toucan too. Our guide brought a telescope and tripod so that we could get a closer look at the wildlife he could see.
Was it worth it for us to upgrade to get the guide? Heck yeah! Thanks to our trained guide, we saw things we would have otherwise missed. His training, passion for wildlife, and experience helped our whole family have a better experience and a deeper appreciation for the rainforest in Costa Rica.
Our marriages can often use a guide
Sometimes we benefit from having a similar guide for our marriages – our most important relationship we’ll have on earth. A guide that’s passionate, trained, and experienced that can help us point out things we might otherwise miss — so that we can have a better and more joyful marriage and a deeper intimate connection to our spouse. Expert marriage coaching can facilitate accelerated growth – overcoming obstacles in weeks or months that might otherwise take years to do.
I am a big believer in marriage coaching, and it has made a huge impact on my marriage! Two years ago I went back to school to learn how to coach others too. I’m now full time with Get Your Marriage On and I desire nothing more than to help you have a fulfilling, intimate marriage!
