This past weekend was our second Get Your Marriage On! live event in St George, Utah. Here are photos from the event:
The Adult Prom
The Prom on Friday night was new this year, and definitely a crowd favorite. About 140 guests came. The open ice cream bar was a hit, and the photo booth was really fun & busy the whole time.
I haven’t been in a tuxedo since my own wedding, and Emily looked so pretty in her fancy dress and her hair done up. Dancing was so fun. One of our sponsors, Canyon Media, gave away Maroon 5 concert tickets for their Vegas on New Year’s Eve event in a drawing. And towards the end of the night, the DJ made a special announcement to bring everyone’s attention to a particular couple. The man got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, there at the prom! So that couple literally got their marriage on at the prom!
I’m grateful for Kristin and Ferron Young for helping us get the prom organized and decorated. They were wonderful.
The Main Event
The main event on Saturday night started at 6pm sharp at the Dixie Center. Our event MC, Colleen Rue, got the crowd engaged with a shoe game and a squat challenge. She also had everyone stand up and remain standing if the couple had been married more than so many years. The couple married the longest in the audience that night has been together for 51 years! They won a special prize.
I spoke for five minutes about the importance of learning, investing in your marriage, and cherishing your spouse.
Speakers & Breakout Sessions
Dr. Dave spoke about the power of positivity in marriage and gave ten tips (or Happy Hacks as he calls it) to bring more happiness and positivity into your life and marriage.
Laura M. Brotherson spoke about 5 Keys for a Sextraordinary Marriage. The premise is that we don’t want a blah sex life in marriage; we want a hot, passionate, and fulfilling marriage. Laura also did an Anonymous Q&A With A Sex Therapist session where participants could text in their questions and she would address them. There were many really good questions she answered!
Dr. Debi Gilmore and Dr. Rebecca Jorgensen are experts in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). They’ve developed a method to help couples discuss hard topics while remaining emotionally connected. A strong emotional connection leads to more security in the relationship, better sex, and less connection.
Seth & Melanie Studley gave a presentation on tools to help you thrive even when marriage gets hard. They discussed their journey and struggles with overcoming problems with pornography, rebuilding trust, and how they’ve come to better understanding each other to have a loving, happy marriage.
Elizabeth Davis gave a presentation on love languages. She had participants figure out what their own love language is, what their spouse’s love language is, and how understanding love languages can build a stronger marriage.
The closing keynote was Sheila Wray Gregoire. She had such a wonderful and positive message about becoming one in marriage. She was very funny and was excellent at connecting with the audience. It was a great way to end the night.
Making An Impact
Over 400 people attended this year. I think that that just about everyone there walked away a little strengthened. The smiles on people’s faces as they held their sweetie’s hands on their way out said it all.
