I read of a research study where the researchers divided the participants into two groups. In the first group, they showed photographs of people of the opposite sex and had the participants rate how attractive the people were in the photos.
In the second group, they showed the same photographs of the persons to rate how attractive each person is, but first, they had the participants do some physical exercise for 15 minutes (like jogging a lap around the college campus).
The second group that exercised first consistently rated higher levels of attraction of the people in the photos than the first group that didn’t exercise first.
The researchers concluded that exercise helps you get in the mood by improving blood flow, activating the nervous system, and making you more receptive to sexual stimuli. Other research concurs with this conclusion [1].
Here’s a tip to get in the playful mood, try something moderately physically active that you both enjoy. Get the heart pumping. One of our favorites is kickboxing, yoga, or some other workout where you follow along with the video. YouTube is an easy and free source for lots of this material! You can even get active in the privacy of your bedroom. Bonus points for doing it naked!
Here’s another creative and fun idea: sock wrestling! You both get completely undressed except each of you wear just one sock on one foot. You then chase and wrestle each other around the room (or house) to see who can get the sock off the other person first. The winner gets to pick the first sex position.
The point here is to have some fun adult play, and exercise and getting your body moving is a great way to be playful.
