Marriage Apps Round-Up!

What if I told you there was a “marriage app” that could benefit every part of your marriage. While there may not be just one app, we have discovered tons of great apps that have helped our marriages! Here’s a list of our top “marriage apps”…

Why Apps?

The world has changed a lot in the last century, the last decade, and even the last few years! One of the changes has been the integration of smartphones and their apps. As the now common phrase goes, “there’s an app for that”!

Although smart phones have definitely created problems in our lives (in the form of social media, the need for constant entertainment and polarizing information), we can also use these devices in a productive way!

Apps can help us get organized, be creative, and consistent. They can help us facilitate communication with our spouse and even provide new topics of conversation. It looks like the smartphone is here to stay in our lives. So let’s learn to use them as a tool to bless our marriages and deepen our intimacy with our spouses.

I (Amanda) asked my co-workers here at GYMO to share with me their favorite apps that have blessed their marriages. Here are their favorite marriage apps!

Finance

Unfortunately, finances are a big cause for stress in many families. Both spouses will have their own way of approaching money. Marriage means bringing those ideas together and creating a cohesive financial strategy. Emotions tend to run high when it comes to money, and it can be hard to work together. Here are some apps that can take the pressure off and help you feel confident in your finances.

You Need A Budget (YNAB)

This app requires a subscription but is so worth it if you want to conquer your budget and get a hold of planning your expenses better. It can be synced to your bank accounts and credit cards, giving you real-time expense tracking and goal tracking.

Mint

If you are looking for a free option, the Mint app is really great! It is a free money manager that will help you balance all of your spending and income. It will help you track all of your finances and create goals of where you want to be.

NerdWallet

One more option for a finance app. This will help you track changes in your net worth and credit score. This can be helpful to have an app that holds you accountable for your spending so one spouse doesn’t end up policing the other (not usually a good situation for a marriage).

Communication and Intimacy Prompts

This is a crucial part of our marriages and our lives. Like we said above, communication in our modern world has never been so accessible and at the same time so difficult. In our marriages, we can strengthen our bonds through real, honest, open communication. Here are a few marriage apps that can help you have those very real moments with the love of your life.

Just Between Us

The Get Your Marriage On! Messaging app that is completely secure and private. Link with your spouse and send each other flirty, spicy, vulnerable massages without worrying about anyone else seeing them (seriously… you have to put in your password to see any part of the message). You can even send videos and photos, so get your sexy on within the comfort of assured privacy. Here are some features of the Just Between Us marriage app.

  • All messages are double encrypted
  • Send text & images
  • Password protect the app so only you see the messages
  • Insert pre-made cute, romantic, and sexy messages
  • Lost for words? includes 100s of conversation topics.

Anatomy of Marriage

This app is essentially marriage counseling in an app form. There are recorded sessions from Therapists explaining various therapeutic concepts and how to apply them into your marriage. If you have ever considered marriage counseling, but thought that it was too expensive or too intense, this is the app for you!

Gottman Card Decks

John and Juile Gottman are premier researchers in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. They even have created their own therapeutic model that thousands of therapists use in their own practices. The Gottman institute has a FREE app full of conversation starters for couples across multiple categories (like love maps, rituals of connection, sex questions, dating questions etc.).

Love Nudge

This app by Dr. Gary Chapman, the author of The Five Love Languages, gives you prompts specific to your spouse that will help you form the habit of expressing love. This app works through the lens of the five love languages and how to use that information to communicate with your spouse. (Note: remember that love languages can only take you so far. Listen to our podcast with Dr. Corey Allan to learn more!)

Date Nights

Regular date nights can be so important. A couple needs time to focus on each other and their relationship; away from kids, jobs, or other stressors. However, it can be so hard to come up with new ideas every week of what to do together. Here are some marriage apps that can help you come up with fun, silly, spicy, or a million other kinds of date ideas.

Intimately Us

This is the Get Your Marriage On! App to help promote intimacy on all levels. It has intimacy prompts everyday to help you find ways to show love to your spouse. It includes fun bedroom games that can help you spice things up in your sex life AND help you build intimacy and emotional closeness. There are also articles to help you learn more about sexual anatomy and sexual responses in a clean and respectful way.  Download the app and plan a super sexy date for your spouse tonight!

Starving Student Card

Even if you aren’t a starving student, going out can get expensive. This app will help you find coupons and discounts for restaurants and entertainment for your date nights. Dating your spouse does not have to cause financial stress!

Mutual Dates

This is another app that offers deals. Mutual Dates has special offers that are specifically geared towards couples. There are deals you can only find on this app, so it might be worth taking a look at.

Headsup

This game can be so fun to play with another couple or just with your spouse! It can help take you out of your comfort zone and just have fun as you act out or explain the word to your partner. There are tons of decks so you can play lots of times!

Space Team

There is a little bit of bias here, but my husband and I love this game. You sync your phone with your spouse’s (and anyone else you want to play with) and join a space team headed on an epic journey! Work collaboratively and see how many levels you can get through!

Paprika

Cooking together can be a really fun way to connect at the end of a long day or week. But again, it can be hard to be creative and find new things to try! This is a great app for collecting and sharing recipes. You can collect recipes from your spouse that are important to them or just their favorites! You can also share recipes with friends and family to gather new ideas to try together.

Other

Here are a few other marriage apps that can be really helpful to marriages!

Life After Pornography

Dr. Cameron Staley created this app to coach you through moving on from pornography. This app is a research supported approach for reducing unwanted pornography viewing. The Life After Pornography Coach App was designed as a simplified, easy to follow guide to help you overcome pornography use. This app includes:

  • A guided 10 week course on overcoming unwanted pornography use
  • Over 60 videos helping you understand why pornography is a part of your life and the steps you can take to overcome it
  • 200+ mindfulness practices to help you gain stronger self control
  • Flight Crew – a message board & support group with other LAP members
  • Journal to reflect and apply principles taught throughout the program
  • Tools to help guide you and make sense of various components of the LAP program

Trello

This is a relatively simple app with a lot of depth. It helps you create lists of lists that you can share with each other, assign things to, mark things as done, etc. This can be especially helpful if you’re about to tackle a large project, such as moving to a new house, or need a simple way to plan menus and shopping lists.

Conclusion

Yes, smart phones can get in the way of intimacy if we let them. However, there are also some fantastic marriage apps that can help you organize, plan, be creative, and explore your sexual desires. Be intentional about how technology will be involved in your relationship and try out some of these marriage apps!
